Summer Sandals and Hair

When I was in first grade I had jelly sandals like these. They were popular back then, my friend Pamela had them in so many different colors.

Lately, I've been thinking more about getting another pair, maybe in red. I just can't help but think they'll go great with sun dresses and casual summer wear. The Polyvore blog did a great post on how to wear jelly sandals now.

I like this look (above) the best. I'd definitely pair mine with a summer print skirt or dress.

Other things I'm loving right now include braided hair and headbands.

I've always loved that braid in her hair and the pose she's striking in this ad for Joe's.

SLIM will always be IN!!!!

I visited the retrospective exhibit of Salvacion Lim Higgins know by her nickname SLIM at the National Museum yesterday. It was AMAZING!!! I highly recommend going. You don't need to love fashion to appreciate fine art and craftsmanship. This was a woman who was ahead of her time. Her clothes are timeless. I couldn't take pictures within the exhibit as the flash might damage the clothing but I did score a copy of the book they published to coincide with it and took some snaps of the clothes so you might get an idea of just how amazingly creative this woman was.

The entrance to the exhibit.

Slim was known for her draping. She could create clothing using a single piece of fabric, or sewn with just one seam but folded multiple ways. The yellow dress above was created in 1959. Don't you think it still seems so current?

A dress and it's sketch, created in the mid- 1950's.

This dress was created in 1982, underneath the bugle beads the fabric was fully sequined. This dress was on exhibit and the beads still shined silver and white, despite being decades old. The lady who toured us around told us that the bugle beads on the market today are no longer like this they eventually turn black.

These two outfits were created in 1986. Is it just me or do they look surprisingly like these 3.1 Phillip Lim outfits worn by Jourdan Dunn and Channel Iman in the November 2009 issue of Teen Vogue? Talk about vision and timelessness.

Slim was also known for doing beautiful bridal wear and ternos.

Above a 1959 wedding gown made of "lace-appliqued featuring a cape that begins at the empire line in the back and is caught with bowed roses on either side of the skirt.

This dress is gorgeous. It reminds me of Grace Kelly's wedding dress. It was worn by the lady below in 1952 for her wedding and then again by her daughter in 1980. A gorgeous dress.

More photos from the book depicting her inspirations and amazing craftsmanship.

The exhibit runs until March 2010.

L.O.V.E

This is one of, if not my FAVORITE fashion advertisement EVER!! (Ferragamo S/S 2006) It's a bit old I remember first coming across it in high school. BUT I LOVE IT STILL!!! After a computer crash a few years back I hunted all over the Internet to find this image. I love how she's looking at him and he's looking at the camera confident in his posture yet pensive and gentle in his facial expression.

If I had to think up a love story based on this picture it would have a long distance love element. Hence, I think these quotes would accurately capture the feelings of the couple for one another.

Happy Valentine's Day Everybody. May your day be filled with love.

Casual Chic

I've noticed that there's a lot of layering going on in fashion today, but living in a tropical country, layering can only go so far before you start to feel like you're in a sauna. Thus I love it when I come across images of outfits that could work in the tropics yet are still fashionable.

Light layering is key!

I love the color combination that Anna Dela Russo's assistant (girl on the right) wears. Sophisticated European looks can translate to tropical elegance too.
